We took a drive into Pwllheli this afternoon to do a spot of shopping, and afterwards decided to have a walk along the beach. There are two main beaches at Pwllheli, South Beach and Glan y Don. We chose to wander along South Beach, pretending we were in Miami. When we arrived we parked on The Promenade and navigated our way through the sand-dunes. We were surprised how quite the beach was, almost deserted. The beach seems to go on for miles and miles, at one end is Gimblet Rock, and the other is Llanbedrog. Along the whole stretch of beach, there only seemed to be about four other people. The sea was calm, the sun was out and there wasn't much of a breeze, it was perfect. We walked a very long way and took in the sea air, stopping occasionally to skim some stones in the sea. It was a little early in the year to roll out the towels and slather on the factor 50, but later on in the year it must be a sunbather's paradise. From the 1st April until 31st September dogs are not allowed on the beach, but as it was 31st March, we were still ok to let our Maltipoo run free, she had a whale of a time.
Pwllheli South Beach is about a 10 minute drive from Hafan y Mor, but there are regular buses and trains running from site if you don't have a car. There are a few cafes close to the beach, but you can also grab food drinks and snacks from the shops in Pwllheli town.
